Cemetery
a) Granite chipping for excessive pots – this job has been completed.
b) Gates refurbishment update – Clerk will have the quotations updated and report back to Council for a final decision at the next meeting.
c) Following an inspection with Cllr Stafford it is suggested that we keep the mature trees and have the conifers and various other trees taken out and the stumps grinded and by the time the Council needs to use this area for burials the stumps will have died off and easily be removed.
d) Check of old churchyard wall – Following inspection of the wall Cllr Stafford had our workmen remove some Elder bushes that were growing out of the wall and to the side of it. It is also proposed that we budget £1,000 in next year’s budget for some pointing work to be carried out on the wall.
e) Graves not to specification – Cllr Oliver will draw up a specification for kerbs for the old part of the cemetery. The Clerk will advertise the cemetery rules in the Gazette and also reiterate that all amendments/alterations and headstones need to be approved by the Council before installation. The grave surround for the late Mr Willis will remain and the grave surround for the late Mr King shall also remain. Proposed Cllr Rees seconded Cllr Oliver.
f) Topple testing – Cllr Oliver informing Committee that new guidelines have been introduced and that common sense has prevailed. This Committee will advertise that during the week commencing 16th November 2009 an inspection of the cemetery will take place. Gravestones will be hand checked and in the case of headstones being deemed dangerous they will be laid respectfully down. Because of the age of some of the headstones especially in the old part of the cemetery it would be uneconomical to try to find all families responsible for headstones. Advertising and notices have been deemed satisfactory. Proposed Cllr Stafford seconded Cllr Rees.
g) Uninsured workers in the cemetery – The Clerk informed the Committee of the current position and will keep the Committee informed of developments.
h) General – There is a grave edging that has been damaged by one of our vehicles, the Clerk will have the damage repaired.
